In a surprising twist, Ms. Lama Calista, mother of popular reality TV star Ilebayе Odiniya, has revealed that the widely circulated audio where she allegedly disowned her daughter was actually a planned strategy between mother and daughter.
The audio recording, which went viral on Tuesday, sparked massive backlash against Ilebayе, with many Nigerians accusing her of being problematic and disrespectful to her parents. The clip appeared to show her mother completely cutting ties with the reality star.
However, in a new video statement sent to an exclusive news outlet in the evening, Ms. Calista clarified the situation. She disclosed that the recording was a deliberate act orchestrated with Ilebayе to create the impression that mother and daughter had fallen out.
According to the mother, Ilebayе’s father has repeatedly accused her of always siding with their daughter during family disputes. To protect Ilebayе and prevent her father from completely turning his back on her, Ms. Calista moved out of the house and made the viral recording as part of their plan.
“I will never disown my child,” she affirmed, adding that the entire episode was staged to manage family tensions.
