Nigerian music legend Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has stirred conversation across the entertainment industry after sharing his candid views on comparisons between Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and contemporary superstar Wizkid.
Speaking during an interview on Mic On, the veteran singer described such parallels as both “ridiculous and disrespectful,” while also stressing that they are equally unfair to Wizkid.
In his words: “It is ridiculous and disrespectful to compare Fela with Wizkid. At the same time, it’s also unfair to Wizkid”

According to 2Baba, the two artists belong to vastly different eras and operate within contrasting musical and social contexts. He explained that Fela was not merely a musician but a cultural revolutionary whose work was deeply rooted in political activism and social commentary.
Wizkid, on the other hand, represents a new generation of African artists who have successfully taken Nigerian music to the global mainstream, achieving commercial success on an unprecedented scale.

The award-winning singer emphasised that both figures deserve to be celebrated for their individual contributions rather than placed in direct competition. He urged fans and commentators to recognise the uniqueness of each artist’s journey, noting that constant comparisons often diminish the distinct legacies they have built.
