It’s going to destroy people- Paul Okoye comments on social media usage

Paul Okoye, a Nigerian recording artiste who is better known as Rudeboy, has expressed deep concern over the negative use of social media among Nigerian youths.

The Reason With Me hitmaker stated that those who use social media mischievously for clout are treading a dangerous path.

He warned that such misuse is likely to destroy many people.

On his Instastory, the singer wrote: “Social media is going to destroy a lot of people… You might think it’s just cruise, clout, or to trend… Your eyes go clear.”

Paul Nonso Okoye, who is better known as Rudeboy, is a Nigerian singer. He rose to fame in the 2000s as a member of the P-Square duo with his identical twin brother Peter Okoye.

Equally important, social media use in Nigeria remains largely unregulated, as there is no official regulatory body.

Social media has been described as an interactive digital platforms that facilitate communication, community building, and content sharing among virtual networks. They encompass a wide range of applications and websites that allow users to connect, share information, and create content, according to the American Psychological Association and Wikipedia.

There have been calls in some quarters for social media regulation, following widespread cases of cyberbullying, fake news, hate speech, and defamation.

A bill proposing the regulation of social media in Nigeria was introduced in the National Assembly but received mixed reactions, significantly affecting its passage. The bill also faced intense criticism on social media.
