Veteran Nigerian actress and philanthropist Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has issued a candid warning to those considering marriage amid family disapproval, declaring it “not worth it” if in-laws are hostile from the start.
During a heartfelt conversation on The Morayo Show hosted by media personality Morayo Afolabi-Brown, Ekeinde shared practical advice drawn from her own long-lasting marriage to Captain Matthew Ekeinde since 1996.
When asked about guidance for newlyweds or those anxious about unsupportive in-laws, she emphasised the realities of matrimony.

“My advice [is] it’s not worth it,” the actress stated. “Marriage in itself is already an institution where you’re going to face a lot. It’s a lifetime journey, every step you gonna need a support and if these people are not gonna support you from the beginning you’re gonna have very rough journey.”

She stressed that while marriage demands effort and resilience, entering it without acceptance and goodwill from the spouse’s family compounds the challenges. “If your spouse’s family doesn’t like you, it is not worth it,” she added in widely shared clips. “Marriage is already hard, and starting without love and support only makes the journey tougher.”
