Nollywood actress and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo has strongly condemned Ghanaian television stations for airing her latest films without permission.
In a video and accompanying Instagram post on Saturday, Ojo revealed that The Memory of You Parts 1 and 2 are being broadcast on channels in Ghana, including NETV, without any licence, payment, or prior contact.
“My movie THE MEMORY OF YOU 1&2 is being aired on TV channels in Ghana without my permission. No call. No license. No payment. Just pure theft,” she wrote.
Addressing the stations directly, she said: “You cannot build your channel on the backs of filmmakers and expect us to keep quiet.”
Ojo tagged Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama, the National Film Authority, and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, urging them to enforce the country’s Copyright Act, 2005 (Act 690).
She reminded the National Film Authority that it had previously warned stations that airing unauthorised content could lead to licence suspension or revocation, and called for immediate action.
“We filmmakers pour our lives, money, and years into this craft. Piracy kills creativity, kills jobs, and kills investment,” Ojo stated. “We are not asking for favors. We are demanding what is rightfully ours: respect and protection for our intellectual property. Enough is enough.”
The actress’s public call-out adds to growing complaints by Nigerian filmmakers over the unauthorised use of their work by some Ghanaian broadcasters.
