Nigerian singer Iyanya has sparked widespread conversation online after speaking candidly about his personal struggles with celibacy and self-discipline in relationships.
The award-winning artiste admitted that while he sometimes makes a firm decision to remain celibate, those resolutions are often tested when he meets someone he is attracted to.
According to Iyanya, his commitment to celibacy is not fixed, describing it as something that “fluctuates” depending on circumstances and emotional connections. In his words “My celibacy fluctuates. Sometimes I want to be celibate, but then I run into a girl, after doing what we have to do, I start missing celibacy again”.
He explained that there are periods when he feels strongly about abstaining from sexual relationships, only to later find himself re-evaluating that stance after becoming involved with someone new. After such encounters, he added, he often finds himself longing for the sense of control and clarity he associates with celibacy.

However, Iyanya has not indicated that he is making any long-term declarations about his romantic life, but his openness has once again placed him at the centre of a broader discussion about relationships, discipline and personal growth in the spotlight of fame.
