British-Nigerian Actor, John Boyega, will be starring alongside Black Panther breakout star, Letitia Wright in an upcoming TV drama based on Steve McQueen’s – “Small Axe” – a book about London’s West Indian community between the 1960s-80s.

The TV drama set to be directed by Oscar-winning director, Steve McQueen (12 Years A Slave) is reported to be comprised of six parts and will tell five different stories.
Commenting on the project, McQueen shared; “I felt these stories needed to be shared. I wanted to relive, reevaluate and investigate the journeys that my parents and the first generation of West Indians went on to deliver me here today calling myself a black British person. What’s important about our stories is that they are local but at the same time global.”

“I think audiences will identify with the trials, tribulations and joy of our characters as well as reflecting on the present environment in which we find ourselves. The dynamic nature of the series allows us to confront injustice in the face of adversity,” the Director continued.

Production of “Small Axe” is currently underway on location in London with members of cast to include Malachi Kirby (Roots), Shaun Parkes (Lost In Space), Rochenda Sandall (Line Of Duty), Alex Jennings (Victoria) and Jack Lowden (Mary Queen Of Scots).

Meanwhile, Boyega has other projects lined up for his fans as they await his possible last appearance in the Star Wars franchise. He will be starring in the film adaptation of the hit novel, “A Naked Singularity” and producing a South African thriller titled – “God is Good”.
