Nigerian singer Timaya, Inetimi Alfred Odon, who has consistently expressed skepticism toward marriage over the years, often prioritising personal peace, freedom from stress, and alternative paths to fatherhood, has dished out advice to single men out there.
In a recent viral clip, he advised single men saying: “Just born pikin, the pikin go grow, this marriage thing no dey work” essentially suggesting having children out of wedlock is preferable, as marriage “doesn’t work anymore.”

This aligns with his longstanding views as in a December 2024 interview with Naija FM, the then-44-year-old said: “I have never been a marriage kind of guy right from time, but it can change.” He emphasised avoiding stress, noting he’d leave any marriage causing disturbance, just as he exited past relationships. He described valuing peace of mind above all.
Timaya has four children with different women and has spoken positively about fatherhood, calling it stressful yet fulfilling while keeping children with their mothers.
In older statements, he claimed no intention to marry, viewing many unions as entered for the wrong reasons.
Timaya has defended his “baby daddy” status against critics, focusing on responsibility to his kids rather than formal marriage.
