Kendall Jenner accused of cultural appropriation in new Tequila ad

Jenner

American model and TV personality, Kendal Jenner, is in trouble once again over an advertisement. The 25-year-old recently launched a tequila brand and has been accused of cultural appropriation for her ad campaign.

Jenner is featured in new photo and video promos for the brand. The ad was shot on an Agave farm in Jalisco, Mexico, where she founded her new company.

“What an incredible experience I have had thus far, learning about this beautiful place, its beautiful culture, and the beautiful people!”Jenner wrote on Instagram.

Many fans were dissatisfied with the content of the advertisement. She was seen riding a horse to agave fields in the Tequila 818 promotional video. Agave farmers were also featured as collaborators with the model. However, the images, as well as Kendall’s choice of outfit and hairstyle, made many people very unhappy.

“Something about Kendall Jenner making tequila rubs me the wrong way. Like the idea of white celebrities taking from local Mexican artisans and profiting off our traditions and agricultural business yet only visit Cabos and Puerto Vallarta for vacation spots…,”  A Twitter user wrote.

Jenner’s new tequila ad

This is not the first time Jenner has been chastised for an advertisement. She was criticised for distorting the Black Lives Matter movement in 2017. Jenner had appeared to join a rally on the street, defusing the tense situation by handing out Pepsi cans to both police officers and protestors. Fans who had been watching the Black Lives Matter demonstrations and allegations of police brutality were outraged by the advert, and the reaction was immediate.

She has also been accused of glamorizing smoking and endorsing unhealthy items such as “fit teas,” which are linked to toxic diet culture.

There has been a lot of talk about plastic surgery allegations in addition to her social media scandals. However, Jenner never admitted to getting any plastic surgery. Although many fans believe she has had minor changes over the years. Jenner responded to surgery reports by saying, “As a model, why would I have my face reconstructed?” It’s completely illogical.
