Veteran Nollywood actor and traditional prince, Jide Kosoko, has been announced by the members of the King Kosoko Royal Family as the Oloja of Lagos-elect.
The declaration, which emerged on Wednesday, signals a significant step in the long-standing and often complex process of selecting a new monarch for the historic coastal city.
In a statement attributed to representatives of the royal household, the family confirmed that Jide Kosoko had been chosen as their preferred candidate for the revered throne.
They described the decision as one rooted in lineage, tradition, and internal consultations within the King Kosoko ruling house, one of the recognised royal families eligible to present candidates for the Oloja of Lagos title.

The announcement has already stirred conversations on social media and within cultural circles, given Kosoko’s prominence in Nigeria’s film industry and his well-known royal heritage.
Supporters have praised the choice, citing his public profile, maturity, and understanding of Yoruba customs, while others have urged caution, noting that formal procedures and approvals by traditional councils and state authorities are still required before any installation can take place.
