Acclaimed Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Republic of Benin, marking a historic step toward promoting the West African film and audio-visual sector.
The agreement was formalised today in Lagos, and it partners Kunle Afolayan Productions (KAP Group) with the Beninese government and the Société de Productions Audiovisuelles (SOPA).
This follows a high-level invitation from the Beninese Presidency and builds on extensive discussions held last month when Afolayan led a KAP delegation to Benin for meetings with senior officials and industry stakeholders.

The deal aims to foster collaboration in film production, talent training, content development, and infrastructure growth, positioning both nations as key players in transforming Africa’s storytelling landscape.
Afolayan described the collaboration as “a defining moment for African cinema, where visionary leadership, cultural synergy, and strategic investment converge to unlock unprecedented opportunities.”
The MoU shows Benin’s commitment to building a competitive film ecosystem, drawing on Nigeria’s Nollywood expertise while tapping into Benin’s rich historical and spiritual narratives.
