Aiyeola of Nigeria, also known as “The Laptop Guy”, has taken to social media to express his emotional distress following public backlash over his tech empowerment project, despite receiving a ₦20 million donation from music mogul Don Jazzy.

In a heartfelt post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Aiyeola revealed how his life has become “miserable” on the platform since receiving the donation meant to provide laptops for Nigerian youths.
Despite operating with transparency and providing regular updates, he claims he’s been met with relentless scrutiny, public shaming, and even death threats.
He admitted that at one point, he considered refunding the ₦20 million just to escape the mental toll, but decided against it to avoid giving in to critics.

Aiyeola emphasised that his laptop initiative didn’t begin with the donation; he had already been buying laptops for young Nigerians in need. After receiving Don Jazzy’s contribution, his team personally added 15 more laptops worth ₦3.9 million bringing the total to 100 devices. Still, accusations continued. He lamented that many critics haven’t followed his updates or reviewed his timeline for proof of work.
“Sometimes I read certain tweets and break down in tears
“This is not a pity post, but Nigerians on this space can be unkind. Everything is cruise to them” he wrote.
However, despite the negativity, Aiyeola said he remains motivated by Don Jazzy’s trust, the appreciation from grateful youths, and brief uplifting moments like his encounter with artist Johnny Drille.
