Last weekend, I spent the entire Saturday binge-watching the content created by skit maker, Layi Wasabi. I was mindlessly scrolling on the social media platform, X (otherwise known as Twitter), when I stumbled upon his video on the microblogging site.
I had a good laugh at the skit he produced, then I decided to delve further into his various social media platforms when I realized he has a catalogue of impeccable short films on his YouTube channel. Of course, I grabbed my popcorn and enjoyed each and every single episode that I came across.

Meet Layi Wasabi

Before his dominance on social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok Tok where he has gathered almost 5 million followers, Layi Wasabi, whose real name is Isaac Olayiwola, was born and bred in Osogbo, Osun state.
He secured a law degree from Bowen University, one of the most popular private institutions in Nigeria. Upon the conclusion of his law degree, Layi Wasabi began to share comedy skits on his social media accounts in the mid to late 2010s before finding prominence in the early 2020s.

Layi Wasabi has created various characters in his skits. In his dramas, Wasabi uses the elements of satire and dark humour to appeal to his audience. Unlike his contemporaries, who are in a haste to create skits according to what is trending, Wasabi takes his time to script his stories and make sure he gives his audience a comprehensive episode of everything that surfaces online.
Each episode of Wasabi’s skit has a message (not in the moral sense), but it tickles the fancy of the audience. The objective isn’t only to provoke laughter but also to entertain, educate, and improve the mental acuity of his viewers.
Wasabi appears as the major character in most of his skits; while he is popular as the struggling roadside charge and bail lawyer in several of his skits, Wasabi is also the smooth-talking motivational speaker-esque marketer known as Mr Richard. Wasabi attempts to connect with his audience via numerous methodologies, and he has been able to do it intelligently.
