A newly surfaced voice recording allegedly featuring Nigerian singer Zlatan Ibile and music promoter Sam Larry has reignited public interest in the unresolved circumstances surrounding the death of Afrobeats star Mohbad.
The audio, released by social media activist Vincent Otse Martins, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, captures a conversation in which Zlatan expresses reluctance to get involved in the controversy following Mohbad’s passing.
Speaking in Yoruba, Zlatan reportedly cited the drama and online backlash that often follow such high-profile cases as reasons for staying silent.

In reaction to the leaked recording, VeryDarkMan issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Zlatan, urging him to publicly clarify his position and explain his silence during the widespread calls for justice after Mohbad’s death.
“I expect Zlatan to come out and explain what he knows and why he remained silent,” he said in a video posted to his Instagram account. “Some people knew the truth but chose to stay quiet, using intimidation and distraction to suppress it.”

Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, died under controversial circumstances in September 2023. His sudden death sparked public outrage and led to protests and calls for investigation. Despite the passage of time, the singer has yet to be buried, adding to concerns that justice has not been fully served.
VeryDarkMan also addressed critics questioning his decision to revisit the case, stating that many Nigerians have moved on too quickly and failed to demand accountability.
“This is why the government doesn’t take us seriously — because we forget so easily,” he said. “Mohbad is still unburied. His spirit is not at rest. This case cannot be swept under the carpet.”
