Listen to Your Body: 5 Subtle Signals People Often Ignore Before a Cancer Diagnosis

Cancer can sometimes develop without obvious warning, which is why paying attention to unusual changes in the body is important.

As Nigeria continues to mourn entertainers who have battled cancer, the subject has also highlighted the importance of recognising possible warning signs early.

However, these symptoms do not automatically mean someone has cancer and can be caused by many other conditions.

Here are five subtle signs that should not be casually dismissed:

1. Unexplained weight loss:

5. Persistent pain or changes that do not go away:

Ongoing pain, numbness, sores that fail to heal or other unusual changes can warrant medical evaluation.

The Nigerian film industry has previously lost prominent figures to cancer, including Sadiq Daba, Aisha Abimbola, Ethel Ekpe and Karibi Fubara. Recent reports have also highlighted Alexx Ekubo, who was reported to have died after battling cancer.

These losses are a reminder that persistent changes in the body should not simply be attributed to stress or ageing.

When something feels unusual and does not improve, seeking medical advice can help determine the actual cause.
