In a recent video, Teju Babyface one of Nigeria’s most successful stand-up comedian and talk show host, has made a profound statement about marriage that has left many thinking.
According to him, when you get married, “your life as you knew it or your life as it used to be ceases to exist.” He emphasised that the person you were before marriage doesn’t exactly die, but rather dissolves into the universe, making way for a new entity formed by the union of two people.

Teju Babyface explained that when two individuals come together in marriage, they create a new being, and the longer the marriage lasts, the more this new entity grows, while the person you used to be drifts further away. This transformation, he noted, is why divorce can be so difficult, as it requires splitting up this new being and trying to rediscover who you were before.
As spoken by Teju Babyface: “We marry two young and this is probably the most important part of this video. The truth that nobody tells you when you get married is that your life as you knew it or your life as you know it now, cease to exist. That person who you are before cease to exist. Not like that person dies. Is like you don’t understand, let me put it in another way for better understanding.”
”I’m not saying when you get married your responsibility will make you a different person, no, no. I literally mean that when you get married, the person who you are before cease to exist that person cease to exist not that not because the person dies but that person goes into the ether, that person goes into the zeitgeist of the universe. Think about it this way, you are one person, your spouse is another person, you both are different people but you guys are coming together to become a whole new entity,” he continued.
”Whom you used to be dissolves into the zeitgeist of the universe, into the matter of the universe. It is still there but the longer your marriage to this person, the longer your new entity begins to grow the further and further that person you used to be drift away which is why divorce is very difficult because people who divorce essentially split up their new being and try to find who they used to be,” he ended.
