Lawyer Emeka Ugwuonye, known for handling high-profile cases like May Edochie’s, has addressed the recent struggles of Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo.
The actress’ office was recently ravaged by fire, and a threatening letter surfaced online, sparking widespread concern. Additionally, a video of a prophecy by Bright the Seer about Ojo and her family has been circulating, with many calling on celebrities to take the seer’s warnings seriously.
According to Ugwuonye, a well-wisher reached out to him, revealing that Ojo is under attack due to her efforts to uncover the truth behind the tragic circumstances surrounding late artist Mohbad, who is believed to have fallen victim to foul play. The lawyer also cited Ojo’s role in seeking justice for actor Baba Ijesha, who was convicted for the abuse of a minor, as another reason for the trolling and bullying she is facing.
The statement reads: “DPA’s Position on Intervening in Defense of Ms. Iyabo Ojo
“Today, we received a passionate plea for DPA to get involved in the case of Iyabo Ojo. The caller highlighted the intense social media attacks against Ms. Ojo, largely due to her efforts to uncover the truth surrounding the tragic circumstances of the late artist Mohbad, who is believed to have been a victim of foul play. She expressed concern that the trolling and bullying directed at Ms. Ojo stem from her role in bringing an actor, Baba Ijesha, to justice for the rape of a minor.”
Ugwuonye emphasised that Ojo is facing intense social media hatred due to her stance against injustice, warning that if such hardships are the consequence of doing what is right, it would set a dangerous precedent. He expressed concern that others in similar situations might hesitate to fight for justice, fearing they could become targets as well.
The lawyer also mentioned that a protest against Ojo was being planned, according to the person who reached out to him. However, he made it clear that he cannot assist the actress unless she directly contacts him, citing past experiences where stepping into a case without the victim’s consent often leads to misunderstandings. For him to help, the victim must be actively involved.
