Nigerian media personality Tolu Oniru, better known as Toolz, has stirred conversation about relationships and family approval after sharing her honest take on dating dynamics involving parents.
On her Instagram page, Toolz posed a question many people quietly struggle with: “Would you continue a relationship if your partner’s parents didn’t like you? And what if your own family doesn’t approve of your partner?”
Sharing her personal stance, the OAP didn’t mince words and said she would have walked away if her partner’s parents, especially his mother, didn’t like her.

“You rarely win that battle if you’re at war with the mum, whether you’re right or wrong,” she said, adding that it simply takes too much emotional energy.
However, when it comes to her own parents, Toolz said she would try to make things work.
She explained that her late father didn’t usually warm up to people immediately and often needed time to come around.

Here is her complete statement, “So here’s my answer… if the parents, especially the mum of someone I’m dating, didn’t like me, I’d probably bounce. You rarely win that battle if you’re at war with the mum, whether you’re right or wrong. And honestly, it would take way too much energy.
Part B: If it were my own parents, I’d probably try to win them over. To be fair, my dad (God rest his soul) never liked anyone at the beginning — you just had to grow on him.”
