Popular Nigerian singer, Omawumi Megbele, has opened up on how meeting award-winning producer, Cobhams Asuquo, changed her music career for good.
In an interview with Hip TV, the mother of two described her encounter with Cobhams as a major turning point that opened doors for her in the entertainment industry.

She recalled that their first meeting happened shortly after she came into the limelight. According to her, Cobhams reached out and offered her a song to record, even though it didn’t look like anything serious at first.
“The first time we met, he just called. I knew we met on the show, and he said, ‘Omawumi, this is Cobhams Asuquo, you know he likes to funkify his name. There is a song I want you to do. It might not come out as anything for now, but let’s just go with it,’” she narrated.
Omawumi said she agreed to record the song without knowing that it would later become a major breakthrough for her.
“I did the song, and then the agency picked it. I became the brand ambassador for that product for two years. Cobhams taught me a lot of nuances when it comes to delivery and posture,” she added.
The ‘Bottom Belle’ hitmaker, who rose to fame after emerging as the first runner-up in the 2007 edition of Idols West Africa, said Cobhams was one of the few people who believed in her talent when she was still trying to find her feet in the industry.
According to her, the project she worked on with Cobhams did not only give her visibility but also brought endorsement deals and other opportunities her way.
“Working with him opened so many doors for me. It was more than just a song; it was a learning process that helped me grow,” she said..
