Popular Nigerian rapper, Olanrewaju Ogunmefun, better known as Vector Tha Viper, has said that his 2021 song with singer Goodgirl LA, Early Momo, once helped a psychiatric patient to overcome depression.
The rapper disclosed this during a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast, where he spoke at length about the power of music and how artistes should not judge success only by chart positions.
Vector explained that for him, music goes beyond awards or topping streaming platforms.
According to him, the true measure of success is when a song touches lives and brings healing or comfort to listeners in difficult situations.

“I can tell when people are going through a tough time because certain songs start to come up more often in streams. Like the record I did with Seyi Vibez, Mercy. Anytime it starts trending, you will know people are overthinking or passing through challenges,” he said.
The King Kong crooner noted that conscious music has the ability to connect with people in deep ways. He stressed that while some may count hit songs by numbers or charts, he believes impact on human lives is more important.
Sharing an emotional story, he recalled how Early Momo unexpectedly helped someone in a psychiatric hospital.
“I released Early Momo and later got a message from a psychiatric home. They told me it helped someone that was depressed. That was a successful moment in another person’s life that I didn’t even plan for. So, success has different definitions,” Vector said.
The rapper further stated that artistes should see music as more than just entertainment, but also as therapy for those who need it. He said songs should be able to meet people at the point of their needs, whether it is joy, sadness, reflection, or healing.
