Omowunmi Aloba, the widow of the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has reacted on social media following the withdrawal of another Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Wahab Shittu, from the ongoing DNA case filed by her father-in-law, Joseph Aloba.
Recall that Mohbad’s father had approached the court seeking a DNA test to confirm the paternity of his grandson. In October 2024, a representative of the family’s legal team, Monisola Odumosu, revealed that Omowunmi had agreed to the DNA test, and that both parties had drafted settlement terms.
The court subsequently ordered that the DNA be conducted at a mutually agreed-upon medical centre within Nigeria, with designated officers to supervise the process to ensure transparency.
However, a letter from Omowunmi’s legal representatives, Salawu Akingbolu Chambers, signed by Kabir Akingbolu, confirmed that Omowunmi rejected her father-in-law’s preferred facility, UCH Ibadan, while he also turned down her choice of Lagoon Hospitals. To maintain fairness, her team proposed Eko Hospital and Reddington Hospital, as outlined in their letter dated December 11, 2024.

In a press release on Tuesday, October 28, the head of Shittu’s chambers announced the SAN’s withdrawal, citing “sustained falsehoods being circulated on social media about alleged attempts to compromise the DNA process.”
Reacting via her Instagram stories, Omowunmi addressed the situation, writing:
“Another lawyer, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has withdrawn from the DNA case. To my father-in-law, you can hire as many lawyers as you want from anywhere in the world, but one thing is certainyou can’t manipulate this DNA. I’m sorry.
”When people are confident in the truth, they don’t run, they don’t hide, they don’t change lawyers every month, and they don’t ignore court summons.
”We have cooperated from day one. We have never opposed a DNA test. We showed up, waited, and followed the law. The only people delaying this process are those who initiated it. No one can manipulate the court, and no one can manipulate science.
”Let the truth speak for Liam, for Mohbad, and for justice. November 11 is around the corner, and we will be there. To everyone wondering why their lawyers keep withdrawing, here’s a clear voice note from my father-in-law’s close associate. I’m patiently waiting for the lawyer who will attempt to dispute or tamper with the DNA evidence about my child.”
