Multichoice Shuts Down Showmax After R4.9 Billion Loss in 2025

Streaming giant MultiChoice Group has announced plans to discontinue its streaming platform Showmax after years of operation across Africa.

The platform, which became widely known for hosting popular African series such as Wura, Flawsome and Diiche, had built a loyal audience over time with its focus on local storytelling and premium African content.

In a statement released on 5 March 2026, MultiChoice confirmed that the decision followed an extensive internal review of the service.

The company explained that the move is part of a broader strategy to strengthen its digital offerings and adapt to the highly competitive global streaming market.
