American rapper, YouTuber, and streamer Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., better known as DDG, has sparked widespread discussion after publicly challenging negative stereotypes about safety in Nigeria, insisting the country is far less dangerous than the United States.

Currently vacationing in Lagos to celebrate the New Year and immerse himself in Nigerian culture, DDG shared a viral video addressing what he described as “Western media propaganda” portraying Nigeria as extremely hazardous. In the clip, which has circulated rapidly across social media platforms including X (formerly Twitter), he directly compared everyday dangers in both countries.

“I honestly think America is the most dangerous country. I don’t think Nigeria is as dangerous as America – nowhere near,” DDG stated. “No doubt, there is insecurity in Nigeria. But gun violence and gangsterism is not common in Nigeria as in America. So, if anybody is thinking about coming to Nigeria, pull up,” the rapper w said.

The rapper, who previously discovered through an ancestry test that he has Nigerian heritage (approximately 22%), encouraged tourists and visitors to experience the country firsthand. He also debunked other common warnings he received before his trip, such as claims that Nigerian food is unhealthy or that all water must be boiled to avoid illness.

Contrary to those cautions, DDG praised local cuisine, particularly highlighting his positive experience with Jollof rice, which he described as flavorful and healthy.

DDG’s trip follows his earlier excitement about visiting Nigeria, including trying Nigerian dishes on stream in late 2025 and expressing frustration with aspects of life in America. Some fans speculate he may even consider a longer stay or relocation, building on his cultural ties and positive first impressions.
