The Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS) has formally petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigeria Police Force to investigate social media influencer Blessing “CEO” Okoro over allegations of fraudulently claiming to have stage four cancer to solicit donations.
In a strongly worded statement signed by its National Director of Publicity, Hon. Bashir Mohammed Rancasau, the NCS described the alleged actions as unethical and harmful to genuine cancer patients and the broader fight against the disease in Nigeria.
According to the petition, Okoro recently went viral after claiming she was diagnosed with advanced cancer in Enugu and urgently needed funds for treatment.
Nigerians donated over ₦12 million in sympathy. However, the original owner of the medical result she displayed has since come forward, accusing the relationship therapist of doctoring the document to support her false claims.
The NCS had earlier condemned the conduct and has now escalated the matter to security agencies due to growing public outrage and the need to protect public trust. The Society stressed that cancer is a serious, life-threatening illness that requires sincerity and compassion, warning that such exploitation undermines credibility and discourages support for real patients.
