Comedian Mr. Jollof has urged Nigerian artists to reconsider their performance fees, warning that the current rates could dampen the excitement of the upcoming Detty December festivities.

In a recent Instagram post, Mr. Jollof expressed concern over the soaring costs of booking Nigerian artists, stating, “Dear Nigerian Music Artists, the current rate of billing is becoming unrealistic. If it continues, this festive season might not deliver the energy we all expect. Fans, promoters, and communities are struggling with costs… Let’s be reasonable, so December can remain a season of joy, not disappointment.”

However, in another post, media personality Do2tun has also dropped a similar post in his X ‘formerly Twitter’. Do2tun dropped a piece of advice to Djs and hype-men as regarding the detty December noting that if artists raise their prices, they should adjust their own fee to be able to fill in the void space and hype.

His tweet reads; “This is a public service announcement to all Hypemen & Djs yet again. We are getting close to that time of the season where our beloved musicians will charge ridiculously & and maybe some brands & individuals can’t afford it. So pls adjust your rate cards so you can fill in for them. Hype is alive.”

Detty December, a period dominated by musical concerts and comedy shows, is a significant event in Nigeria’s entertainment calendar. The hospitality industry also experiences a boost during this time, as many people come together to celebrate.
