Popular Nollywood actress and filmmaker Ruth Kadiri has stirred a conversation online after voicing her frustration over Nigeria’s escalating cost of living in a heartfelt video shared on her Instagram on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
In the clip, the actress, known for keeping a relatively positive public persona, admitted the economic hardship is becoming unbearable even for her.
She began, “As a human being, I’m not known for complaining. But you see, the past couple of days have been so troubling for me. Because if somebody like me can start to feel the brunt of the heaviness of being a human being, I wonder what other people are going through.”

Kadiri fumed at the shocking price of basic food items, revealing that a small portion of tomatoes and pepper now costs as much as ₦5,000. She questioned how ordinary Nigerians earning between ₦25,000 and ₦50,000 monthly can survive, especially with broader food inflation hovering around 16% in recent official data.
The actress’s outcry comes amid a period in which many Nigerians are grappling with the impacts of fuel subsidy removal, naira devaluation, and persistent inflation. The video quickly went viral across social media platforms, with users sharing similar experiences of skyrocketing prices for staples like garri, bread, and vegetables.
Many are calling on the government to implement urgent measures to ease the burden on citizens.
