
Nigerian rapper, Olamide, in a recent interview with podcast host, Ada Ohh, explained why he decided to establish his own record label.
Speaking with Ada Ohh on the Ada’s Room podcast, Olamide stated that he started Yahoo Boy No Laptop (YBNL) so that he could assist upcoming musicians.
Olamide mentioned during the session that his struggles during his younger years inspired him to help budding musicians who are unable to pay for their studio sessions to give their music sessions a form of expression.

“Growing up, I struggled to pay for recording sessions,” Olamide explained. “I vowed to create an opportunity for up-and-coming musicians,” he added.

The rapper went on to state that he made a vow to himself to assist creative and talented artistes he comes across.
Olamide went on to say, “If I ever make it, I’ll help others. This has always been on my mind.”
The Nigerian rapper established the record label, Yahoo Boy No Laptop (YBNL), in 2012.

In 2020, Billboard magazine named YBNL as one of “the gatekeepers” of the Nigerian music industry.

Olamide and Fireboy DML are currently the only musicians signed to the label. The label once served as the home to Adekunle Gold, Lil Kesh, and most recently, Asake.
