Popular Nigerian media personality and actress, Toke Makinwa, recently announced that she is expecting her first child. The news was met with excitement from fans and colleagues, but it also attracted an unpleasant comment from a social media user.

The incident happened shortly after Toke shared photos revealing her baby bump on Instagram. While many people congratulated her, an Instagram user with the handle @ninistrends suggested that the pregnancy was fake and claimed she might be using a surrogate.

The comment sparked quick reactions from fellow celebrities. Award-winning singer Tiwa Savage replied to the troll, politely asking them to delete the hurtful remark. Actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham went further, issuing strong words and rebuking the troll for making such a statement. Renowned actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele also weighed in, expressing her displeasure over the comment and called her ‘oloriburku’

Fans React Strongly

The post and the troll’s comment triggered a heated conversation online. Many social media users condemned the remark, saying it was insensitive to make such accusations against a pregnant woman. Some argued that it was wrong for women to pull down other women, especially during pregnancy. Others questioned why it mattered even if she had chosen surrogacy, insisting that it is a personal decision.

One user wrote, “Women should support each other instead of mocking or questioning another woman’s pregnancy.”

Another added, “Even if she used a surrogate, it is nobody’s business. The most important thing is that she is happy.”
