Davido

Afrobeats superstar Davido has sparked fresh conversations online after taking a swipe at music executive and show promoter Paulo Okoye amid the ongoing debate over the state of the Afrobeats genre.

The singer made the remark in the comment section of an Instagram post by talent manager Bankulli, who had pushed back against Paulo Okoye’s recent claim that Afrobeats is “dead or in a coma” in 2026.

Defending the genre, Bankulli argued that Afrobeats remains strong, insisting that the industry is simply experiencing a shift in sound rather than a decline. He pointed to the success of artists such as Qing Madi, Ruger, Blaqbonez, Odumodublvck, Fireboy DML, Joeboy, Ayra Starr, Johnny Drille and others as proof that the genre continues to thrive.

He also urged promoters to invest in Nigeria’s concert infrastructure and support the next generation of artists instead of focusing solely on expensive headline acts. According to him, Afrobeats is far from dead, with Nigerian artists still touring internationally and expanding their global influence.

Davido’s comment

Reacting beneath the post, Davido left a short but attention-grabbing comment that read, “PAUL O AKA PAUL BROKE.”

Although the Grammy-nominated singer offered no further explanation, the remark quickly went viral, drawing hundreds of likes and triggering mixed reactions from fans.
