Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P and formerly one half of the iconic P-Square duo, has reacted after a social media user suggested that he should retire from making music because of his age.
The conversation started on X after a user identified as OloriOfOloris argued that the singer, who is 44 years old, was getting too old for Afrobeats and should begin considering retirement from the music industry.
Quoting a clip of Mr P’s music video, she wrote, “I don’t get why an almost 50 year old man is still singing like this. It’s okay to retire.”
The comment quickly sparked debate online, with many fans defending the veteran artiste and questioning why age should determine when an entertainer stops making music.

Popular media personality Do2dtun also weighed in on the discussion, disagreeing with the fan’s opinion.
Do2dtun said: “Some active international musicians such as Celine Dion, Shakira, Beyoncé, and Backstreet Boys are older than Mr P.
“Peter is 44 but you dimwits are so ageist that you don’t even know what you bring down in the name of clicks.”
Quoting Do2dtun’s post, Mr P claimed that those asking him to retire because of his age are heartbroken fans of the defunct P-Square.
Mr P said: “After dem realize say all those narratives no hold water, dem come with another one.”
Mr P added: “Meanwhile, na the same people go celebrate and hype Usher, Beyoncé, and Chris Brown for doing exactly the same thing.”
