Popular Content Creator Asherkine Arrested in UNILAG

Nigerian Creator Asherkine Detained at UNILAG Over Filming Rules

Popular Nigerian content creator Akinyemi Oluwaseun Omotayo, widely known as Asherkine, has revealed that he was briefly detained by security personnel at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) after attempting to film content on campus without obtaining the required approval.

According to the influencer, the incident occurred while he was creating content within the university premises.

UNILAG has maintained a policy requiring individuals to secure permission before carrying out commercial or social media filming on campus.

The directive, which was announced by the university’s Communication Unit in October 2025, was introduced to curb the growing number of unauthorised productions that were reportedly disrupting academic activities and affecting the orderly use of learning spaces.

The university explained that the regulation was designed to protect students and staff, maintain security on campus and preserve the institution’s image.

Under the policy, anyone intending to film on university grounds is expected to obtain prior approval from the appropriate authorities before commencing any production.

Asherkine later addressed the incident in a light-hearted “storytime” video shared on social media. Speaking from his bed, the content creator narrated the experience with humour, reassuring his followers that the situation had been resolved.

Rather than expressing anger over the incident, he turned the experience into entertaining content, which quickly attracted widespread attention online.
