Nigerian singer Akinmayokun Awodumila, popularly known as May D, has taken to social media to express gratitude to God, after hinting his escape from death.
This comes after the 40-year-old former DMW signee shared a photo of himself in a hospital bed taking drips on his Twitter page, on Saturday night, with a post that reads: ‘‘Thank God for life’.’

The singer in a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, explained why he turned down a contract with Square Records, a music label owned by the R&B duo Psquare.
May D revealed that he lived in the boys’ quarters at their house while collaborating on music with the duo, a situation he felt did not signify personal or career growth.
He noted that a more appropriate arrangement, such as a room or flat, would have demonstrated better support.
He said, “If I sign an artist who’s already successful, there are many things I would put in place for them. It doesn’t have to be a house, but at least something fitting.
“For instance, they could have given me a room in the vacant section of their house. I didn’t mind living in the boys’ quarters, but I was thinking of my future. How could I stay in the boys’ quarters and sign a contract?
“A flat wasn’t too much to ask for. I started reflecting on my life when people visited and questioned my situation.”
May D also recounted an encounter with Davido, who once sought his help while avoiding his father and unable to stay in hotels.
He said, “During that time, David was running from his dad. He told me, ‘Guy, I might have to stay at your place because my dad has blocked me from all hotels in Nigeria.’ I suggested we go to Psquare’s house.
“I told him he could stay in my room, but when David saw the room, he was shocked and said, ‘May D, is this really where you live? I can’t stay here.’ If I had a proper room, it would have been a different story.”
May D was formally signed to the now-defunct P Square brothers’ record label, Square records. On September 25, 2012, he founded his own record label known as Confam Entertainment. May D announced he has joined Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) record label on July 18, 2020.
