The Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos has sentenced two TikTok Influencers, Babatunde Peter Olaitan and Tobilola Olamide for abusing the Naira note.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned the TikTok stars on separate one-count charges for tampering with Naira notes by spraying them at a social event held on April 8, 2025, at 23 Macdonald Road, Ikoyi.
The EFCC, through its prosecution team and an investigative officer, Ibrahim Bukar, presented evidence including video footage and the defendants’ confessional statements.
The investigation was initiated following a viral TikTok video showing Olaitan, also known as TDollar, spraying Naira notes in a nightclub.
Both pleaded guilty to the charges, which are punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.
In his ruling, Justice Owoeye convicted the defendants and sentenced them to six months in prison, with an option of a N200,000 fine each.
The EFCC has recently cracked down on high-profile individuals for similar offences.
In April 2024, crossdresser Idris ‘Bobrisky’ Okuneye was sentenced to six months in prison for naira abuse. Last month, businessman Emeka Okonkwo popularly known as E-Money was arrested for allegedly spraying US dollars and abusing the naira.
Others, including actress Iyabo Ojo and comedian Ayo Makun, were also questioned last week, while billionaire sons Wahab and Raheem Okoya were invited for interrogation in January over a music video showing naira spraying.
