The national leadership of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has placed Nollywood actress and producer Shirley Igwe on indefinite suspension following allegations of violence and misconduct on a film set.
According to reports, Igwe physically assaulted a crew member during a heated altercation on a movie location in Lagos, which escalated to her slapping the individual.
In a statement issued by the Chief of Staff to the AGN National President, Ifeoma Okeke, the Guild strongly condemned Igwe’s actions, describing them as unprofessional and contrary to the ethical standards expected of members of the acting community.

“Following our preliminary investigation into the allegation of violence leveled against actress Shirley Igwe on a film set in Lagos, the National Executive Council has resolved to place her on an indefinite suspension,” the statement read in part.
The AGN emphasised that the decision was based on Igwe’s “unprofessional misconduct, violence, and indiscipline, actions capable of bringing the profession to disrepute.”

The Guild further directed all its members to desist from participating in any film production involving Shirley Igwe until further notice.
Additionally, the AGN has called on Igwe to tender a public apology to the assaulted crew member.
Meanwhile, Veteran Nollywood entertainer, Charles Oputa, popularly known as CharlyBoy, has expressed sadness over the death of veteran Nollywood actor, Tom Njemanze.
Recall that the actor reportedly passed away over the weekend after a prolonged battle with prostate cancer.
Before his death, the actor had recently disclosed through a viral video online that he was undergoing treatment for the ailment and called on Nigerians for urgent support to help fund his surgery.
Reacting to his demise, CharlyBoy described Njemanze’s death as “regrettable.”
The “Areafada”, who had earlier launched an appeal to Nigerians for financial support for the ailing actor, said his death came when efforts were being made to procure surgery for him.
“We received the news at the weekend from his son, who called to inform me that he had passed on.
“His death is so unfortunate, and that is why when we see somebody in distress, we should immediately see what can be done because nobody knows the time.
“Although we have been able to help the family a little bit in terms of the awareness we created, getting people to donate straight to their account,” he said.
Recall, CharlyBoy had launched a campaign on prostate cancer screening across Nigeria to educate men about prostate cancer risks; calling for regular screening and early treatment.
According to CharlyBoy, who recently survived prostate cancer, his foundation is spearheading a nationwide campaign because many men are dying in silence for not talking about their prostate issues.
