Afrobeats singer Qing Madi has shared her candid thoughts about the music industry, describing it as “dark” due to the numerous challenges she has faced since rising to stardom at a young age.

In a recent interview on the LagosMeetsLondon podcast, Qing Madi recounted her experiences navigating complex contracts and dealing with greedy professionals who seek to take advantage of her.

The young artist expressed her desire for a simpler life, free from the pressures of fame, where she can focus on her music and personal relationships. “Literally, I’ve had so many contract issues, so many issues with professionals in the industry where it’s just like, I just wanna go to school,” she said.

Qing Madi emphasized that she never intended to become a star overnight, but her music resonated with people, propelling her into the spotlight.

Qing Madi also highlighted the toll fame has taken on her personal life, feeling like a machine rather than a human being. “Sometimes it doesn’t even feel human. Sometimes it’s just like you’re a machine and everyone’s just got papers looking at you trying to figure out,” she said. Her mother plays a crucial role in keeping her grounded, reminding her of her responsibilities and ensuring she stays connected to her family.

Despite the challenges, Qing Madi remains determined to pursue her passion for music while navigating the complexities of the industry. “I don’t know if I’m ready. It’s crazy, but I’m just like winging it right now,” she admitted.
