Real: What is the Relationship Between Asake and Wizkid?

Earlier, eelive.ng reported that Nigerian music superstars, Asake and Wizkid, will be releasing a joint music EP titled Real. The announcement has been receiving predominantly positive responses from fans of both artists, and the project is voraciously anticipated by music lovers in Nigeria and outside the region.

Before the announcement, Wizkid and Asake had worked on various tracks from their respective albums, and to be sincere, their songs are smash hits, especially the song ‘MMS’, which is off Asake’s 3rd studio album, Lungo Boy, which was released in 2024. In the same year, Asake featured on Wizkid’s ‘Bad Girl’, which is off Machala’s 6th studio album, Morayo, which was also dropped in 2024.

Most recently, both artistes featured on Sarz’s ‘Getting paid’ off his new music project, Protect Sarz at all Cost. The song has received massive airplay and is one of the most popular songs on Sarz’s debut music album.

The relationship between Asake and Wizkid has flourished further following the former’s departure from his mentor, Olamide Baddo’s record label, Yahoo Boy No Laptop (YBNL). Asake wasn’t expected to return to the limelight following the turmoil he experienced in the early part of the year, going through various forms of transformation, the self-acclaimed Mr Money has been able to grab the bull by the horns and focus on building his own brand, both as a successful musician and an organization, Giran Republic. Like Wizkid, Asake is a man who wants to rule his generation.

It would be recalled that Wizkid suffered severe turmoil at the end of his contract with Banky W’s record label, Empire States Entertainment (EME) in 2014. Wizkid has mentioned in various interviews that he had to undergo various forms of mental and emotional quagmire to achieve his objective as an independent musician and emerge as a successful record label owner. Wizkid was able to establish his own record label, Star Boy Entertainment in 2012, but, it wasn’t without a fight.

In a publication reported by eelive.ng, Wizkid is the most streamed African musician on the streaming music platforms, Spotify and Apple Music, therefore, he still has a loyal fan base that is prepared to consume whatever Star boy exudes.

As seen in their previous collaborations, Wizkid and Asake have the natural chemistry to connect and make great songs, indeed, their burgeoning EP, Real would be awesome and there’ll be something for fans of Afrobeats to enjoy during Detty December and beyond.

Meanwhile, his younger colleague, Asake is a Nigerian singer, rapper and songwriter. His debut album, Mr. Money with the Vibe broke the record for the biggest opening day for an African album on Apple Music at the time, and debuted at number 66 on the Billboard 200 chart.
