On May 31, 2025, Nollywood actress Ruby Ojiakor held the final leg of her wedding to filmmaker Moc Madu, marking what was expected to be a joyous celebration of love.

However, what unfolded instead was a striking display of underlying tensions, disunity, and rivalry within the Nollywood community—particularly among the Asaba-based actresses.

Ruby’s wedding journey began earlier in the year with a surprise engagement announcement. Sharing a video of the romantic proposal, she expressed gratitude to God and declared her love for Moc Madu.

The couple soon held a traditional ceremony, followed by a glamorous white wedding attended by several Nollywood celebrities, including Ruth Eze, Angela Okorie, Luchy Donalds, Queeneth Hilbert, Destiny Etiko, Ngozi Ezeonu, and BBNaija star Queen Mercy Atang.

While the guest list suggested a star-studded, celebratory atmosphere, the event in itself  became a reflection of deeper rifts in the industry. Tensions simmered, boiling over to outright displays of animosity.

One particularly controversial moment occurred during the wedding reception when actress Destiny Etiko abruptly stopped spraying money on the bride after Angela Okorie took the stage to perform. Destiny quietly picked up her money and exited the spotlight, an act that sparked mixed reactions as many observers speculate about hidden beef among the actresses.

Another dramatic episode unfolded online between veteran actress Rita Edochie and her colleague Nneoma Ukpabi. After former posted a video criticizing Ukpabi’s wedding outfit as indecent, calling for more modesty in society, Ukpabi responded angrily on Instagram, accusing Edochie of attempting to tarnish her reputation. The exchange between the duo, revealed  longstanding personal grievances among the actress’s.

While these moments were caught on camera, several insiders hinted that more drama simmered beneath the surface. Actress Chioma Nwaoha, a guest at the event, posted a cryptic Instagram story lamenting the “fake energy” and toxicity she felt at the wedding.

“Mehnnn… Asaba is too toxic… Too many actresses trying to prove nonsense point. Saw a lot of fake energy and vibes in my sister’s wedding. I wish she could read through their minds. I’m sick,” she wrote.

Though she didn’t mention names, her words echoed a sentiment that many guests seemed to share—that the celebration had been overshadowed by ego clashes and silent wars.

Actor Emmanuel Ehumadu also voiced his disappointment, calling out the lack of decorum among the female stars.

“Our Nollywood girls and drama na 5 & 6. Y’all should take a chill pill and allow Ruby enjoy her marriage. We did not turn up for nyash competition,” he stated bluntly in an Instagram post.

Even the bride, Ruby Ojiakor, seemed to subtly acknowledge the tension. Throughout the event, she repeatedly flaunted her wedding ring in front of cameras—an act that many interpreted as a pointed message to critics and haters lurking in plain sight.

Rather than serve as a platform for unity, Ruby’s wedding unintentionally exposed the simmering feuds, rivalries, that plague the Asaba wing of Nollywood. The event became less about love and more about silent battles, grudges.

What should have been a celebration of togetherness instead turned into a cautionary tale of disunity within Nollywood’s actress circle—where personal pride often overshadows public support, and the glitz and glamour hide a brewing storm of bitterness.
