Nollywood actor Saheed Balogun has reacted to the frequent cases of flooding across Lagos State.
He blamed Lagos residents for the situation in the state.
Balogun, who shared his opinion in a video posted on Instagram, noted that many people in Lagos contribute to the issue by dumping refuse carelessly into gutters and blocking drainage channels.
According to him, the reckless disposal of waste makes it difficult for water to flow freely whenever it rains, thereby causing the kind of flooding that destroys properties and disrupts activities in many parts of the state.

He recalled that during one of his movements around the Maryland area of Lagos, he personally witnessed residents pouring trash into open gutters.
The actor said that though he could not capture the act on camera at the time, it was a common practice that has worsened the flooding challenge.
In his words: “We are the government, and we are the ones doing this to ourselves. Because they dumped refuse into the gutter, look at Ikorodu road, people have blocked the gutter. We even saw some people at Maryland but we couldn’t record it. Throwing dustbins into the gutter blocks the drainage.”

Balogun insisted that Lagos residents must take responsibility for their actions instead of always blaming the government whenever floods occur. He stressed that no matter how much effort is made by the authorities, the situation will not improve unless people stop the habit of turning gutters into refuse dumps.
The actor stated that simple discipline in waste management and proper maintenance of drainage systems could save lives and properties whenever heavy rainfall occurs.
