Several Nigerians still cannot believe that the real name of popular comedian Broda Shaggi is Samuel Perry. In the same way, they cannot comprehend how he was among the groomsmen for Mr Eazi’s high-profile wedding ceremony to billionaire heiress, Temi Ajibade (nee Otedola), who is the daughter of Femi Otedola.
Due to his jocular personality, people disregard the intelligence, brilliance, and tenacity of Broda Shaggi, whose full name is Samuel Animashaun Perry. Perry is a young man who is driven by the sole objective of becoming the number one content creator, comedian, and actor in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Broda Shaggi gained prominence in the late 2010s, following the meteoric rise of skitmakers and the skit-making boom in Nigeria. He is in the same class with notable skitmakers such as Sabinus, Mr Macaroni, Officer Woos, the list goes on.
Shaggi differentiated himself from his contemporaries by creating a ‘tout’ character. He endeared himself through his comic personality.
Early Life and Struggle
Born in 1993, Shaggi was born in Ikenne, Ogun State, Nigeria, but is from Sagamu in Ogun.
His father was a drama teacher, which had an early influence on his love for acting and performing. Following the demise of his father, he moved to Lagos and stayed with an aunt in the Makoko area.
The popular comedian studied Creative Arts at the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
In a previous interview, Shaggi explained that poverty was one of the things that pushed him toward entertainment. He has said that “hunger” motivated him to identify and use his talent.
In the mid to late-2010s, Shaggi began by creating comedy skits, sharing them on social media (especially Instagram), often with satirical or parody content.

One of his early pieces that gained wide attention was a parody/drama called Jesu in Mushin. It was one of the skits that made Shaggi an immediate attraction in the skit-making field. He would go on to release several other skits where he often acted as a tout.
It is important to note that he became a prominent figure following the development of his character “Broda Shaggi,” which is a humorous persona with streetwise mannerisms and a strong Yoruba influence.
Crossover into Nollywood

As stated earlier, Shaggi isn’t the type to stop after a ‘congratulations’. He keeps on going onto the next phase, the next big thing for Shaggi was Nollywood, the Nigerian movie industry.
Due to his popularity as Broda Shaggi, movie producers saw him as a ‘main attraction’ for modern comedy films. Some of his notable films are The Millions, Chief Daddy 2: Going for Broke, King of Thieves, and the list goes on.
He has also released music, including the hit song “Oya Hit Me,” which features a fusion of Afrobeat and Fuji music.
Award and Recognition
Shaggi is a two-time Best Actor in a Comedy, Movie, or TV Series winner at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards in 2022 and 2023.
