Nollywood actor cum filmmaker, Stanley Amandi, was reportedly arrested alongside some military officers who were accused of planning an attempt to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
According to reports, the veteran actor was arrested in September 2025. This is the first time his alleged involvement in the failed plot has been made public.
Investigations revealed that the actor had been recruited by the suspected coup plotters to act as a propagandist. Security sources say this was part of their preparations for a violent takeover of the government.
Government sources briefed on the case said the plotters allegedly planned to assassinate top officials, including President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas.
On Monday, the Defence Headquarters confirmed that investigations had uncovered a plan to illegally remove the Tinubu administration. They added that the officers involved would face military judicial panels.

The military said in a statement that investigations are complete and have been sent to the “appropriate superior authority in line with extant regulations.”
“The comprehensive investigation, conducted in accordance with established military procedures, examined all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel,” the statement read.
