Shut Up! Charly Boy Tells Sheikh Gumi Over Bandit Remarks

Charly Boy, Nigeria veteran singer popular called Areafada, has strongly criticised Islamic cleric Sheikh Gumi for his stance on the ongoing insecurity issues in Nigeria.

Gumi had reportedly suggested that attacking bandits would be a mistake, prompting Charlyboy to respond in a scathing tone.

In an outburst on his Instagram page, Charly Boy questioned Gumi’s priorities and motives, accusing him of defending criminals and acting as their unofficial mouthpiece. “You dey talk like their PRO, like their spiritual adviser, like their unofficial mouthpiece,” Charly Boy said, adding that Gumi’s comments were “nonsense” and that he should “shut up” if he cannot provide meaningful input.

Charly Boy’s reaction highlights the growing frustration and anger among Nigerians over the country’s insecurity challenges. His remarks also underscore the perception that some prominent figures, including clerics like Gumi, are more concerned with negotiating with bandits than with protecting the lives and property of innocent citizens.

The controversy surrounding Gumi’s comments has raised questions about the role of religious leaders in addressing insecurity in Nigeria. While some have praised Gumi for advocating for dialogue and negotiation, others have criticized him for appearing to sympathize with the perpetrators of violence rather than the victims.

As Charlyboy put it, “Bandits must be crushed. Victims must be protected. Government must wake up.”
