Popular Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, better known as Simi, has publicly apologised and vowed to no longer speak up on issues concerning women following heavy criticism of her outspoken stance during the recent viral sexual assault allegation involving TikTok user Mirabel.
In a late-night post shared on her Instagram, Simi wrote: “This will be the last time I speak up for women, I apologise for everything please forgive me 🙏🏾”
The controversy emerged after a TikToker Mirabel shared emotional videos claiming she had been raped in her Ogun State home by an intruder who allegedly threatened her and boasted of family connections that would shield him from consequences.

The story quickly went viral, sparking widespread outrage, the hashtag #JusticeForMirabel, and renewed national conversations about rape culture, victim safety, and accountability in Nigeria.
Simi joined the conversation expressing deep frustration over sexual violence. She stated that “almost every woman [she knows] personally has been sexually assaulted or harassed,” condemned rapists harshly and suggesting severe punishments like castration.
In responses to her tweet, many slammed her and requested that such punishment suggested by her should be given to anyone who raises false rape accusation. Others faulted her for making such comments without a full investigation done on the case.
