
Nollywood filmmaker and actor, Kunle Afolayan, took to his Instagram to celebrate his birthday today. Here are six interesting facts you need to know about Kunle Afolyan as he turns 51 today.
1. He comes from a legendary film family. Kunle Afolayan is the son of late Nollywood icon, Adeyemi Afolayan (Ade Love), one of the pioneers of Nigerian cinema. He has carried on his father’s legacy while carving his own distinct path in the industry.
2. Started as a Banker, before fully venturing into film, Kunle worked in the banking sector. His passion for storytelling eventually led him to resign and pursue a career in filmmaking.

3. Trained in film at New York film academy to improve his craft, Kunle attended the New York Film Academy, where he studied Digital Filmmaking. This training shaped his unique, cinematic approach to Nollywood storytelling.

4. He’s a multi-award winning director. Kunle has won numerous awards for films like The Figurine, October 1, Citation, and Aníkúlápó. His work has been featured on Netflix and international film festivals.
5. Owner of Golden Effects pictures. He is the founder of Golden Effects Pictures, a production company that has produced some of the most visually stunning and culturally rich Nigerian films.
6. He’s passionate about Yoruba culture, many of his works, like Aníkúlápó and Mokalik, are deeply rooted in Yoruba tradition, language, and history, promoting African storytelling on a global scale.
Taking on to his Instagram today, Kunle penned down a heartfelt message as he wrote: “Just because God loves me, I keep increasing in wisdom, joy, knowledge, good things of life and good health.
I thank God for the gift of life.
Ayodeji Adekunle Akande is a year older.”
