Skales is experiencing newfound fame and popularity. He is the number one trending artist on various social media platforms such as TikTok and X, and as of the time of this publication, his 2015, ‘shake body’ has found a new audience on the music streaming platform, Spotify. Fans of the Spanish football club, Barcelona FC, cannot have enough of the 10-year-old single, and he was in Spain last weekend to perform the song in Catalonia, Spain.
Skales was gyrating to the single in the locker room of the Spanish football club, Barcelona, following their success in the 2025 Copa Del Rey final against archrival, Real Madrid. The usually overlooked and underrated rapper was hugging the president of the Barcelona football club, Joan Laporta, on a private plane. It didn’t stop there, Skales was seen vibing with Barcelona superstars such as 17-year-old superstar, Lamine Yamal, who instigated the recent combustion in the music career of the Nigerian musician.
In 2015, when Skales released ‘Shake Body’, he never imagined that the single would be played on the international stage; he simply released a song and wanted to make music. This isn’t written to demean the lyrical acumen of the rapper, instead, it is simply a sincere review of where the Kaduna-born rapper was a decade ago.

Skales wasn’t regarded by pundits and social media commentators as the most exciting artiste, nor was he the one on everyone’s lips; as at the time, he wasn’t considered to be in the league of his former labelmate, Wizkid, or the hottest artiste at the time, Davido.

Pundits might fail to remember that Skales joined Banky W’s record label, Empire Mates Entertainment (EME), in 2009. He was the first person to be a member of Banky W’s project, which was before the Afrobeats poster boy, Wizkid, emerged. Unfortunately, pundits have preferred to demean his music career. Several trolls on social media have preferred to mock Skales, calling him ‘talentless’ for being overshadowed by the star power of world-class artiste, Wizkid.
In February 2014, Vanguard newspaper reported that Skales left E.M.E. following the expiration of his four-year recording contract. E.M.E executives believed they were not getting remunerated for investing in him and refused to renew his contract. Unfortunately, Skales did not become a marquee name, hence, he had to journey into the wilderness.

Shake Body: Newfound Fame

The interesting thing about art, craft, and other forms of creativity is that it doesn’t have an expiry date. Art would always serve its purpose regardless of the era or decade that we are in, for instance, in 2019 to early 2020, the career of Fuji musician, Obesere, was revived through his smash hit, ‘Egungun’.
The single was used as a meme on social media, then it was sampled by skit makers and content creators, reviving the career of Obesere. This is how art works; it is timeless and would always be quintessential regardless of the era. It only needs to be picked up by an actual person who knows how to breathe life into the content.
This explains why Skales is experiencing a newfound fame and his single is receiving attention from a once apathetic audience. The ‘Shake Body’ gained newfound popularity following a viral moment where Spanish stars Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams, and Samu Omorodion danced to the track.
The singer-songwriter has now appealed to fans to allow him to enjoy the moment without comparisons.
He appreciated God for the unexpected favour and urged his colleagues and fans to cooperate with him for greater growth.
On his X handle, he wrote, “I feel like my life just restarted again … I’m nothing but a learner pls allow me to enjoy this moment without disrespecting anyone that has achieved way more than me … God is the greatest … let’s grow together yall (sic)”
It is only ideal to congratulate Skales and allow him to enjoy the attention he is receiving from the international audience, this is his moment.
