A social media user has publicly apologised to Nigerian influencer Priscilla Ojo Mkambala after falsely attributing an insensitive remark about postpartum depression to her which sparked widespread backlash on social platforms.

The controversy started on Thursday when an X user with the handle @_elite_girl posted a claim that Priscilla had said she never experienced postpartum depression that she viewed the condition as an illusion caused by poverty.

The full post read: “Priscilla Ojo was asked about marriage after childbirth. She said she never experienced postpartum depression; instead, her love for her husband tripled. She believes postpartum depression is an illusion caused by poverty. I believe her, do you think so?”

The statement quickly went viral despite lacking any evidence like a video, interview, audio, or reliable source. It drew criticism for linking postpartum depression (PPD), a serious mental health issue affecting many new mothers, to poverty, which many called harmful.

On Friday, Priscilla Mkambala responded decisively via her Snapchat, denying the quote outright and demanding proof. She wrote: “I never said this. What’s wrong with Twitter people? Be ready to provide evidence!!” She continued: “What do you mean I said ‘postpartum is an illusion caused by poverty’? Insulting to mothers… very insensitive.”

Faced with mounting online criticism, the X user issued a public apology directly to Priscilla. In her statement, she expressed deep regret and took full responsibility: “I am deeply sorry, Priscilla. I sincerely ask for your forgiveness. Although the tweet was posted by someone handling my page at the time, I take full responsibility for what was shared on my platform.”

Priscilla Ojo and Tanzanian singer Juma Jux privately married in late 2024, with public ceremonies in 2025. They welcomed their first child, son Prince Rakeem Ayomide Mkambala, on August 24, 2025, in Canada.
