Nigerian social circles, entrepreneur and public personality Sophia Momodu has formally demanded ₦10 billion in damages from socialite Caroline Hutchings, widely known as Caroline Danjuma.
The demand forms part of a legal notice issued on July 14, 2026, by Prince (Dr.) Richard Oma Ahonaruogho, SAN, of Paradise Law Firm, accusing Hutchings of defamation through a cryptic Snapchat post.
Although the post did not mention any names directly, it was widely interpreted by the public as referring to Momodu. This led to significant reputational harm, emotional distress, and a surge of online bullying directed at Momodu.

According to the notice, Momodu reached out privately on July 3, 2026, requesting clarification or a public statement if the remarks were not aimed at her.
Despite receiving the message, Hutchings reportedly neither responded nor issued any correction, allowing harmful speculation to persist. The legal document highlights how the post and its aftermath exposed Momodu—a respected businesswoman, mother, and public figure—to ridicule and unwarranted attacks.
Lawyers emphasize that Nigerian law protects individuals from publications, whether direct or by innuendo, that damage reputation and standing in society. The demands include a clear retraction and unreserved apology across all social media platforms and in national newspapers, substantial monetary compensation, and a written undertaking to avoid future defamatory statements.
Momodu’s team has left the door open for an amicable settlement while preparing for potential court action if the 48-hour and seven-day timelines are not met.
