Nollywood actress Mojisola Adebanjo has urged the public to stop judging actors by the characters they portray on screen.

The actress has called for a clearer distinction between professional roles and personal realities while highlighting the damaging stereotypes that often plague actresses.

The actress, in an interview with Punch, noted that many people enter relationships with preconceived notions, assuming that actresses are naturally flirtatious, disloyal, or perpetually seeking attention because of their on-screen personas and demanding schedules.

Misconceptions are brutal,” she said. “‘Actresses are flirty,’ ‘public women can’t be loyal,’ ‘she’s always busy.’ These stereotypes make people bring insecurity into relationships from day one.”

She pointed out challenges such as long working hours, kissing scenes, and constant public scrutiny that partners sometimes struggle to accept.

Adebanjo drew a parallel with other professions, noting that a male doctor attending to female patients is rarely judged the same way. She appealed for actors to be seen simply as professionals doing their jobs.

The actress also addressed the intense pressure on women in the industry regarding appearance and visibility. While men are often allowed to “age like fine wine,” women face harsh criticism about age, weight, and looks. Despite this, Adebanjo says she has learned to embrace self-love and not let negative comments define her.
