January: Wizkid Dominates Nigerian Music Aerospace
At the beginning of the year, Nigerian recording artiste, Ayodeji Balogun, quickly exuded his dominance in the Nigerian music space, this is courtesy of his sixth studio album, Morayo, which was released in November 2024. Due to the strategic release of his music project, Wizkid entered 2025 as the most-streamed Nigerian musician with 218 million streams.
Following him were Asake, who had 147 million at the end of the first quarter of 2025, and Seyi Vibez with 138 million streams.
Interestingly, the singer-songwriter topped the list of most-streamed artistes and albums on Spotify and in Nigeria with Morayo. Also led on Apple Music in Sub-Saharan Africa.
February: Tems Bags Grammy
Nigerian recording artiste, Temilade Openiyi who is better known as Tems made headlines in February 2025 at the 67th Grammy Awards, winning the inaugural Best African Music Performance for her solo hit “Love Me JeJe”, marking her second Grammy win after her 2023 award for “Wait for U” with Future & Drake, solidifying her meteoric rise in global music.
March: Asake Mends Relationship with Estranged Father Following Departure From YBNL
In February 2025, there were speculations that Nigerian recording artiste, Ahmed Ololade, who is better known as Asake, left Olamide’s record label, Yahoo Boy No Laptop (YBNL), after releasing three impressive albums. After weeks of speculation from netizens and pundits, the Nigerian musician eventually unveiled his new record label, Giran Republic, through the single, ‘Why Love’.
While Asake was adjusting to the new phase in his music career, members of his family claimed he has neglected his father, Fatai Odunsi. Amid the conundrum, it was revealed that the musician has a baby mama and an 11-year-old daughter, eventually, Asake was able to ease the storm.
April: Juma Jux and Priscilla Ojo Walk Down the Aisle
When Nigerian actress and content creator, Priscilla Ojo walked down the aisle with Tanzanian musician, Juma Jux in April 2025, the world shut down for them to walk down the aisle.
The wedding ceremony was one of the most talked about at the beginning of the year. A cross-national event that saw Nigerians adore and regard the culture of Tanzanians and vice versa. May: Davido, Omah Lay Release Smash Hit, ‘With You’
In April 2025, Davido’s 5th studio album, 5ive was released. The music album received mixed reactions from social media users and Afrobeats fans, however, the single, ‘With You’ featuring sensational singer-songwriter Omah Lay was a major hit. The single was the major song from Davido’s music project.
The song debuted No.1 on the official Nigerian Top 100 in early May and it racked up rapid Spotify milestones.
June: Ayra Starr Confirms Major Acting Debut in Children of Blood and Bone
Nigerian recording artiste, Ayra Starr cannot only sing, but she also knows how it act. Although she appeared in the 2024 Nollywood film Christmas in Lagos, Ayra Starr was announced as part of the cast of Children of Blood and Bone, Paramount Pictures’ adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling novel, marking her acting debut alongside Viola Davis, Idris Elba, and Cynthia Erivo.
The Gina Prince-Bythewood-directed film wrapped production in Lagos on June 2, with a scheduled release date of January 15, 2027.
Speaking about the experience, she reflected on how filming forced her to adapt to strict schedules and military time, stating that she now respects actors more than ever and learned tremendously from working with the ensemble cast.
July: Ayra Starr’s ‘Hot Body’ is the Song of the Summer
Nigerian recording artiste, Ayra Starr is appearing on our list for the second time, this time around for her smash hit, ‘Hot Body’. The single is Produced by Ragee with additional input from The Elements and mixed by Johnny Drille, the track blends Afrobeats with dancehall and pop influences. It was issued as a standalone single during a period of international recognition for Starr.
August: Toke Makinwa Welcomes 1st Child Months Before Turning 41
In November 2025, Toke Makinwa turned 41; however, this time around, she was celebrating as a mother. The entertainment polymath made the shocking announcement in August 2025, inevitably shutting down social media.

September: Mr Eazi Weds Temi Otedola in an Intimate Wedding Ceremony in Iceland
It is safe to call the union between Nigerian recording artiste and businessman, Mr Eazi, and billionaire heiress, Temi Otedola, the nuptial ceremony of 2025. The intimate nuptial ceremony took place in Iceland, and predominantly high-profile personalities such as Temi’s father, Femi Otedola, the wealthiest black man, Aliko Dangote, and prominent Nigerian skit maker, Broda Shaggi, were at the event.

October: Imisi Wins Big Brother Naija
Imisi Ayanwale was crowned the winner of Big Brother Naija Season 10, taking home the ₦150 million grand prize. The 23-year-old fashion designer secured the win after 10 weeks in the house, winning with 42.8% of the votes and beating out runner-up Dede.
November: Asake Goes Through Professional and Personal Transformation
Appearing on the list for the second time is Nigerian recording artiste, Asake. This time around, he is appearing on our list for coercing netizens to talk due to his numerous transformations, going from multiple colored hair to acquiring numerous tattoos, and eventually styling his hair bald.
Asake made headlines throughout November, headlining shows across the globe and becoming one of the most stylish artistes in the Nigerian music industry.
December: A Spot for Social Media Content Creator, Gilmore
Foremost Nigerian social media content creator, Gilmore, is the skit maker everyone should settle and watch in December. The sensational comedian has intriguing skits on his TikTok and YouTube channels that would keep you at the edge of your seat and, of course, entertain you.
Gilmore has been able to transcend beyond the regular 60-seconds skits that talks about his struggles in higher institution and finding his own path, the comedian has been able to carve a niche and theme dubbed, ‘New Age…(put in category)’.
