Nigerian Afrobeats star Tekno whose birth name is Augustine Miles Kelechi, has opened up about one of the darkest periods of his career.
The singer revealed he refunded over $1 million in performance fees after completely losing his voice and canceling numerous shows.
In a recent interview clip circulating on X, the Tekno shared how vocal cord inflammation, worsened by acid reflux following a high-energy performance in Ghana, led to a nine-month ordeal where he could neither speak nor sing.
At the peak of his rising stardom, Tekno noted that he was forced to cancel booked shows and personally refund promoters, a decision that reportedly cost him millions of dollars in earnings and recovery expenses.
“I couldn’t speak for 9 months… I had to cancel all my shows and refund all the money,” Tekno recounted. He described visiting multiple doctors, spending heavily on consultations, and fearing his career was over.
Tekno eventually recovered after intensive treatment, including surgery to address the reflux, and made a strong comeback.
