TG Omori, the popular Nigerian music video director has credited the church for playing a big role in his journey to becoming a filmmaker.

In a post shared on Twitter, Omori said his interest in directing started during church drama nights, where he first discovered and developed his acting and directing talents.

According to him, the church did more than just give him a platform to showcase his skills, it also advised and encouraged him to follow a career in filmmaking.

Omori defended the role of spirituality and religion in people’s lives, saying that while many focus on making money, others find peace and fulfilment through faith.

He stressed that people should respect each other’s life choices, adding that many turn to religion after going through certain life experiences.

In his words, “Life is not only about making money or chasing economic power. Some people find comfort in spirituality or religion. Even China has monks and spiritualists who have no interest in wealth but in seeking eternal life. Just because you have not experienced situations that push you towards faith does not make you wiser. A billion religious people cannot all be foolish. Live and let live.”

Omori further explained that the church supported him during his early years and gave him opportunities at a time when many neighbourhoods only had social clubs or street theatre groups.

He also addressed common complaints about church offerings, saying, “If I calculate my whole family’s offering in church for 10 years growing up, it won’t reach ₦20,000. Meanwhile, my father was spending that kind of money on beer back then.”

The award-winning director ended his post by boldly affirming his Christian faith:

Jesus Christ will forever be my Lord and personal Saviour, and I will never be too cool to proclaim His goodness and mercy.”
